paper view

Well, I just finished number 25 in the ebook reading frenzy I’ve been in the past two months.

So, I thought I would go back to an earlier technology for a while and read a trilogy in paper . . .

I know - shocking!

It’s the Serpent’s Egg trilogy by a Canadian author - (J. Fitzgerald McCurdy) - set in Ottawa. It is a young adult fantasy series.

Our local library had all three just sitting there, and I couldn’t help myself. So now I have them and will read them in short order.

And I’ve been searching for a grand space opera with hints of mystery, horror and adventure - throw in some space battles and I’m a happy camper.

I’m thinking Alastair Reynolds will fit the bill nicely with his Revelation Space series.

On to tennis - which I took off this week to rest my hand which was bugging me again. I hurt it years ago and every once in a while it flares up.

So, I took the week off, and let it heal . . . sort of.

I’m back to the courts again this week.

And today is game day again - yeah!

Always fun to RPG or board game and just hang around with good friends while gaming and stuffing our faces with all kinds of tasty food.

It’s a good thing this happens only once a month, because at my age abusing myself like this is not a wise choice.

And my new computer is working a lot better than my old melted one. Much faster. Of course, it could have to do with a fresh load of Win 7 too.

Oh, and I’ve managed to keep up my exercise regime as well (the six days a week thing) - feeling pretty fit and good these days.

I’ve also been trying to make nutritious meals for the family each day too. Exercise and good food and enough sleep - the recipe for feeling good.

Well, once more the time flies by while I’m having fun and so another week’s worth of rambling comes to a close.

Until next Sunday . . .

re boots

Yes, I refer to both my rebuilt computer and the fact that winter is storming back in with a vengeance forcing me to not wear runners.

So, I was awoken at three this morning to the sounds of thunder . . . no kidding. This was followed pretty shortly after with high winds which persist even as I type this up.

The temps are going to drop in the order of 15 C today, hence the winds. Yikes!

It is about time though since only a few days ago it was 14 C outside which was pretty insane.

Which pretty much sums up weather patterns across the globe these days. Insane.

And I almost have my rebuilt computer set up the way I like it. Not all Steam games are downloaded, but hey, I’m on slow high speed if you follow me.

And it’s been a whole week and nobody in our house has contracted some sort of new flu or cold.

A record.

I’m also getting a bit bone weary. From all the exercise I’ve been doing.

I’ve been trying to keep at it for six days a week and have managed to do this for about a month now.

But, as the body ages, it just doesn’t snap back like it used to from physical exertion.

Of course the alternative is to do nothing, grow stiff and flabby and expire of a self-inflicted heart condition - so I put up with the aches and pains and keep exercising - and moaning about it.

And my tennis game is as sporadic as can be. One day I’m smoking everything in sight, missing very few shots. Two days later I maybe make one out of five shots and suck so badly I want to crawl off the court and hide in a corner for shame.

Frustrating, but part of my exercise regiment - so I put up with it.

Well, as you can tell I’m in top form today (sarcasm) so I’ll just leave off here and hope my house doesn’t blow away this morning.

Oh, and I just finished novel 9 yesterday . . . working on number 10 now.

Until next Sunday . . .

It is alive!

WooHoo for me!

Yeah, you know the reason.

Four cores of fun - right here, right now.

Funny how, when you lose your computer, it feels almost like you have lost a limb . . .

Er, well, that’s how I felt without mine for the past two and a half million . . . weeks.

So, while said computer was out on the refurbishing block, I managed to read 7 novels since Jan 1 and will be polishing off number 8 today . . . er, maybe a bit too much?

But, I have heard that reading is supposed to be good for you.

Well, what can I say about the new rig - it is lightening fast and the case is frikin humongous. There is enough air circulating through the Cooler Master 932 Advanced case to exchange all the air in my house a couple times an hour . . . I think.

Anyhow, no more core meltdowns for me - wind burn and hypothermia maybe - but no more meltdowns!

And the nice man at the computer store was able to save all my music, favourites and other miscellaneous files for me on my second drive.

The only files that were not saved were my Steam game files . . . um, yeah. If you know about Steam and some of the huge games I have you know that downloading them again is a serious time sucker - but I am not complaining in any way, all things considered.

And, it seems that this morning I finally woke up not all stuffed up and dying from the tenacious cold I’ve been battling for the past week and a half.

Another yeah for me.

Also, we got a new cell phone this week . . . because the other one is just gone. Maybe it melted down somewhere? Stolen. Dropped. Entered a portal to another dimension?

Whatever the reason, it is most definitely gone.

Word of note. Do not buy a replacement phone from any cell provider. They charge at least double the price for a replacement phone of any other store on the planet.

We picked up a cheap 40 buck phone, as compared to the provider’s cheapest 120 dollar one, at a cheap store and it works great.

Anyhoo - as I see already, my time and space are used up for this week.

Until next Sunday . . .

living without

Yeah . . . still no rig.

My ruined computer is still in the shop and soon to be built as all the goodies are in to build it.

Got the I5 processor, an Asus mobo, 8 gigs of ram and the truly awesome Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced full tower case. It is an absolute monster.

I went for case cooling overkill because I do not want another of my computers to melt down. Ever. Again!

And looking at the price I`m thinking it is actually one third of the price of my very first computer, the one I got back in 1989 and played Ulitma IV on . . .

So, I`m typing this blog today on my wife`s laptop.

Wow, how I hate laptops.

I have only one word for them - convenient.

All other descriptors are negative.

And, as a late X-Mas gift I contracted some nasty nasal virus.

Yeah for me.

I`m getting over it but there are still a couple more days of suffering before it ends.

Well, not much else to relate - except I am hopeful that my new rig will be operational by this time next week.

If not, well there will be another grumpy post showing up here . . . okay, maybe that is normal.

Until next Sunday . . .
